Chronic Hand Eczema: A Disabling and Often Understood Condition

Itching, redness, cracking, pain—the signs of chronic hand eczema are numerous and severely impact daily, social, and professional life.

A common and debilitating condition.
Chronic hand eczema affects more than 2.7 million people in France. It's a debilitating and underestimated condition. Yet our hands are essential to our daily lives, and the pain it causes prevents us from performing simple tasks and everyday movements. It even makes holding a pen difficult! It impacts daily life as well as the workplace. And since everyone sees our hands, it also affects our self-image. In short, our quality of life is significantly diminished.

More and more solutions exist to treat it.
While chronic hand eczema can be treated, the problem...is diagnosis. Indeed, general practitioners, the first point of contact for patients, still lack information, which doesn't always lead them to refer patients to a dermatologist. An appointment can take time, it's true… People suffering from chronic eczema can also consult their occupational health physician, who can adapt their workstation.

Eczé’Main is mobilizing for better care
As we've seen, effective management of chronic eczema requires a multidisciplinary approach and professionals who communicate with each other and with the patient. The Eczé’Main network, which brings together dermatologists, occupational health physicians, and patient associations, has just launched an awareness and information campaign for patients: "It's better without it." Without the disease, of course… To encourage people to consult a dermatologist—even if it takes time—and benefit from a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. All for a better daily life!
